Gluten Free Baby Shower

Today was a very special day. We had a baby shower for our daughter who is expecting her first baby, our first grandchild. Indeed, a very special day.

Early this morning, before our guests arrived, we washed and dried 24 onesies and then hung them in the living room, watching them dance in the sun. A few hours from that moment, each of our guests would be asked to paint a special picture and message on one of the garments, resulting in a wardrobe of different sized onesies for our daughter and son-in-law's soon-to-be-born baby.

But I'm getting ahead of myself. First, let's talk food.

Those of you who read my blog know that I cook and bake, alot. The idea of catering a party in my home is foreign to me. But a very special person in my life convinced me to try it, just once. Let somebody else do the cooking. So, I did.

We knew that the Boynton Restaurant made kickass gluten free pizzas, but we never imagined that they could cater an entire gluten free event, and really well. From the first time I spoke with Jayson (the Boynton caterer) to the moment he packed up the last of the rented linens, tables and chairs, the experience was fabulous. An all around A+.

The dessert, made by On The Rise Bakery, was fabulous. Every bite of this cake was perfect, just like the lovely day we had. A beautiful baby shower for a beautiful and sweet daughter who we know will make a wonderful mommy!

  2. Oh, what a fabulous day and event for you, Ellen, and your daughter! Love the photo of the onesies and all the food photos. So happy the caterer worked out so wonderfully for you. It's nice to have a break once in a while, especially when you have so much else going on at an event. Congratulations on being a soon-to-be grandmother!

  3. What an awesome day! I am going to be throwing a baby shower in a few months - my little sister is expecting twins! And I LOVE your onesies idea! Going to have to get some paint and onesies. So, you did 24 - maybe I need 48, since there will be twins? LOL

My mom threw me a gluten-free baby shower. I went GF about 1/2 way thru my pregnancy, and the idea of party food made me want to weep. I just couldn't imagine anything I could eat. Though we didn't have such gorgeous pizzas (!), we had beautiful food and a wonderful day. It meant the world to me. I'm sure your daughter is as touched as I was.

  9. Wow, that looks amazing! And here I was impressed that my mom & sister's mother in law made a point of including gluten free items at my sister's shower so that I could eat with everyone else. This looks even better!!!
